PRODUCT REVIEW – EASTER EGGS

I am running very behind in my Easter preparation. I’m just pulling up for air after all our birthday celebrations this month! Whilst I was at the shops this week I saw a huge array of Easter egg options available and thought I would share a couple of options with you. Showing how you can make a better choice.

The first is a Cadbury plain Easter egg pack, the other is Cadbury Humpty Dumpty pack. Both these options include “flavour” that I ordinarily avoid. However I am comparing supermarket options for you (as opposed to health food store or making your own) and virtually all the supermarket eggs will contain flavour. There is no way of knowing what is included in flavour. Food manufacturers normally will not disclose as they claim this is their trade secret.

So the plain Cadbury pack is very clean – full cream milk, sugar, milk solids (cocoa butter, cocoa mass, emulsifiers (soy lecithin, 476) and flavours.

Humpty Dumpty has full cream, milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, milk solids, emulsifiers (soya lecithin, 476) colours (102, 110, 120, 124, 133, 171), vegetable gum (414), flavours, glazing agent (903).

So the harmful additives would be the colours and these may cause symptoms of:
102 – aggressive behaviour, headaches, insomnia, skin irritations, difficulty concentrating, learning difficulties.
110 – diarrhoea, hyperactivity, skin irritations, vomiting
120 – asthma, skin irritations
124 – asthma, hyperactivity
133 – allergic reactions, asthma, skin irritations, hyperactivity.

I know which ones I would prefer my kids had on Easter! The kids will love both as they are both brightly packaged and chocolate! How about you – what would you prefer your kids ate? Was this helpful for you? Would you like to see more?
