Do you think we need healthier fundraiser alternatives? This week I shared on our Facebook page a new fundraiser I had come across on social media. It was pizza fundraiser from Bakers Delight. Most people seem to have a perception of Bakers Delight that the products are better for you. Their website tag line is:
“There’s no shortcut to fresh. We’re committed to delighting that’s why all of our bread is made from scratch, and baked every day.”
People will assume if that is their approach to baking bread, then it must be the same approach across the store. The thing with Bakers Delight is that you don’t know at a glance what the ingredients are.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) make exceptions for food that is made and packaged on the premises from which it is sold. In this case, there is no need to display the ingredients. I will say though that Baker’s Delight are VERY good at providing you with the ingredients if you ask.
Not having ingredients readily available just adds another layer of difficulty. Mums are time poor. They don’t want to put others out etc. They will trust the products are better for them as they are made on the premises. The marketing tag line is: “there is no shortcut to fresh”
As I mentioned Baker’s Delight are very transparent with their ingredients. You can ask them directly and they will print off a docket with the details attached. Their website also contains the list of ingredients for each products.
The pizzas that were available for the fundraising drive were:
Pepperoni Pizza
Margherita Pizza
BBQ Bonanza Pizza
Hawaiian Pizza
I expect most parents would think this would be a better option to the chocolate fundraisers. Its a tough call to say which I would prefer looking at the ingredient lists. I’ve included a couple of examples for you below.
What do you think?

I think it’s time for a healthier fundraiser
We know our schools need our help to fundraise for them. They need to be well supported by the school community. They need to be easy to manage. They also need to be profitable. We can make them healthier fundraisers!
I have included some healthier fundraiser ideas for you to consider. I can tell you the fun run fundraiser option has been one of the most profitable ventures our school has undertaken and it ticked the box of being a healthier fundraise.
Name labels – these are a very easy popular fundraiser especially towards the beginning of a new school year. Parents are buying labels for their kids anyway. This is an easy fundraiser and helps in avoiding lost property.
Living fundraisers – what better way to get kids eating more veggies! You can normally find veggie growing kits and herb growing kits. The kids just love watering their plants, watching them grow and harvesting.
School Fun Run – everyone can participate. It’s fun and gets the kids moving! This has had to be one of the most profitable fundraisers our school has participated in. It’s a win win for all involved.
Adventure Novels – these novels are set at your local school and include 4 real teachers as characters and 22 possible endings. What a great way to get kids interested in reading and earning money for your school?
These are just some of the ideas you could consider for your school. There are heaps of options out there. It’s time to put our kid’s health first. Next time fundraising is discussed at your school, throw some different options into the ring.
