WEMBLEY SUPA IGA PARTNER WITH ADDITIVE FREE KIDS TO HELP FAMILIES SHOP ADDITIVE FREE
Wembley Supa IGA is the first supermarket in Australia to partner with Additive Free Kids and assist consumers in identifying additive free products.
It’s not always easy to identify harmful food additives on product labels. The labels don’t always tell the whole story.
Manufacturers are able to list additives by either name or number, meaning the consumer has to know both to be able to decipher them. Often that isn’t enough either. Clean label ingredients need to be investigated further with the manufacturer to get to the bottom of what the ingredient actually is.
The current labelling laws allow any ingredient constituting less than 5% of the product to be omitted from the label, which makes it very difficult even for the most dedicated consumer.
Additive Free Easy Shopping
Deryck Kippen, co-owner and his team at Wembley Supa IGA believes it important to help parents feed their children healthier food that is free of these harmful additives.
So far over 7,200 products have been reviewed so far and over 1,400 items identified as additive free in the store.
Can you imagine being able to walk into a store and not needing to worry about reading labels anymore?!
All the hard work has been done for you!
It will be sooooo much easier to vote with your dollar now.
I have LOVED working with the team at Wembley Supa IGA. They are so passionate about giving back to their community and wanting to go one step further in assisting their customers save a lot of time when shopping.
If the community response is positive, we will look to expand this initiative to another five grocery stores in the group including Canning Bridge IGA and The Good Grocer stores in Applecross, Leederville, Shenton Park and (soon to open) South Perth.
Wow, great initiative, would love to see this in some IGA stores further North!
I look forward to seeing the community response! If it is positive we could see this rolling out across more stores 🙂
Congratulations to IGA! Thanks for supporting your community! Hopefully this is the first of many!
I have just LOVED working with Wembley IGA. Our values are so aligned and their community focus comes through in everything that they do. Its all about community first.
An absolutely brilliant idea. I truly hope that you bring additive free labelling to Canning Bridge & the a good Grocer.
Thanks for your comment Rosemary! Well you have a good chance! I think these two stores are part of the group!
Hi! I think this is a great idea but I went to the IGA today and didn’t see any additive free labels. Could you please let me know where to look? Is it on the pricing label? Thanks!
Hi Natalie
At the Wembley Supa IGA store, you will see the Additive Free Kids endorsed labels on Grocery items, as part of the price label. We are currently working on changing these over at the moment so that they are able to be identified easier. They should be up in the next couple of week and the little price labels that are static on the shelves will change from yellow to the AFK Teal colour if the product is additive free too.

Oh please help make this happen in Geelong/Marshall IGA! What a brilliant idea!
The reality after a few months of managing the process is that it is much harder to manage than first anticipated due to the rate of change of ingredients. However…we have new ways to assist you…all being revealed very soon!
Thank you for your comment. We have found that this can be a little tricky to manage but have other solutions coming your way soon!
