MAKING ADDITIVE FREE EASY – SWITCH THIS TO THIS
I keep hearing from our community that you feel overwhelmed when it comes to Additive Free changes. It can be daunting when you are first considering changing over. Additive Free Kids is here to make it easier for you and your kids! We are your advocate for you and for your kids! I want to show you how easy it can be with our new series of “Switch This To This” posts. Making additive free easy for you and your kids!
The aim is to make additive free easy for you and your kids. To provide you with the knowledge to vote with your dollar each week at the supermarket. It is really important on this journey that your kids do not feel like they are missing out. You are literally switching one product for a better alternative. Whether it be cornflakes like we are looking at today, or tomato sauce or sausages. The key to long term success is to be able to switch without the kids feeling deprived.
Let’s have a look at Cornflakes
Kellogg’s Cornflakes
Ingredients:
Corn (89%), sugar, salt, barley malt extract, vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin E [soy], niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, folate), minerals (iron, zinc oxide).
I recommend avoiding “barley malt extract” which is contained in Kellogg’s Cornflakes for those that are sensitive to MSG. Barley malt extract is an additive that frequently contains or produces processed free glutamic acid during processing (ie same effect as MSG). It is addictive and makes you want to eat lots of them!! The effects of MSG can include asthma, hyperactivity, nausea, migraines etc.
Freedom Cornflakes
Ingredients:
These are additive free and a better option, however, canola oil, is used which I avoid for many reasons including that it is one of the most chemically altered foods in our diets and it shouldn’t be promoted as healthy.
Australia’s Own Organic cornflakes
Ingredients:
Organic Corn (88%), Organic Raw Sugar, Organic Apple Juice Concentrate (1%), Salt
A much better product, no harmful additives and organic corn is used, which is always my preferred option. In addition, the oil used in this product is sunflower which is a better alternative to canola.
Switch this for this and you are already one further step on your additive free journey!
If you find this useful, please share with others so that they can also vote at the supermarket this week with their dollar!
