PRODUCT REVIEW – EASTER EGGS
We had lots of lovely feedback from the Additive Free Kids community that our Easter Egg Review really helped them! Additive Free Kids was able to do the hard work to make it easier for you!
So today we are going to look at some mini eggs currently on the supermarket shelves:

Cadbury Dairy Milk mini
Full cream milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, milk solids, emulsifiers (soy lecithin, 476), flavours
Let’s have a look at the additives that we would recommend avoiding in each:
1. M&M Speckled Eggs
- Colours (potential effects can include):
- 102 – aggressive behaviour, headaches, insomnia, learning difficulties, skin irritations, asthma
110 – diarrhoea, hayfever, hyperactivity, skin irritations, asthma
129 – hayfever, hyperactivity, nausea, tantrums, skin irritations
133 – asthma, hyperactivity, skin irritations
- 102 – aggressive behaviour, headaches, insomnia, learning difficulties, skin irritations, asthma
- Flavours – manufacturers are not required to disclose what is included in this label, as it may be their ‘trade secret’. This could include a huge list of ingredients! So it is impossible to know. Normally on all products there should be a consumer help line, you can call them and ask!
- Barley malt extract – is an additive that frequently includes MSG (free glutamic acid) – it is addictive and makes you want to eat lots of them!! The effects of MSG can include asthma, hyperactivity, nausea, migraines etc
2. M&M Mini Eggs
The ingredients are virtually identical to the speckled eggs with the exception of barley malt extract.
3. Cadbury Dairy Milk Eggs
With the exception of flavours as discussed above, no other additives to avoid.
