Tim Tams cause AFK Community member
asthma and hives
One of our AFK community members shares her experience with Tim Tams
A few months ago I had a severe case of hives including face and throat swelling where I had to be hospitalised several times.. A few days ago I began having an asthma attack and had to be hospitalised, I don’t even have asthma.
I’ve just made the connection that the cause of my hives and asthma attack is the additives in Tim Tams.
I’ve just started reading about additives and I am absolutely horrified. I don’t even know where to start but your website looks fantastic.
I have a 14 month old baby girl who I want to protect and my husband suffers from terrible stomach issues. I had no idea about the dangers of additives.
During all of this investigation over the last few months not one medical professional suggested it might be additives.
Over the last couple of days when I suggest that I think it’s the additives in Tim Tams they laugh in my face

Hi there we have been additive free for nearly 7yrs with 3 children. My husband brought Tim Tams the other day (which we never have) to put in a dessert platter I did up for a friend and had some Tim tams left over. He ate 2 the other night and had an asthma attack not long after.
I looked up the ingredients and yes discovered most of them causes reactions.
He has grown out of asthma 15yrs ago but every now and then something sets him off and we put it down to food he doesn’t normally have. So scary!!
Thanks for sharing Kristy. Very scary 🙁
Hello, I only have 1 biscuit a night, in usually eat Aldi Tim tam copy… I have no issues… this morning after eating 1 original Tim tam my throat is really sore. Something didn’t agree with me.
Everything else in my diet was the same as usual.
I wont eat a Tim tam again.
Thanks Simonne for sharing your experience. Would be interesting to see if this happens on multiple occasions?
I just had a recent dermatitis type reaction to eating original Tim Tams. I’ve never had an issue in the past though it’s been a while since I’ve had one and I’ve been eating pretty clean and preservative free for some time now. I was already in the midst of dealing with eye dermatitis (another first) which I put down to irritants in the environment and a glass of non-organic white wine I’d had but that was clearing up and getting better. Anyway, my Dad offered me a Tim Tam which I took not thinking much of it, and I could feel the inflammation almost instantly. By the next morning my eyes were swollen again. The humble Aussie classic sadly ruined for me now.
I’ve noticed my throat. Aches. Really bad. After eating Tim tams. And I’ve been getting headaches. I never have headaches. I asked google. Now I know I will never eat Tim tams again.
